Portland Criminal Lawyer Stephen Houze received the top honor at the "Battle of the Lawyers," an event sponsored by the Daily Journal of Commerce in which five Portland-area litigators redelivered closing arguments from some of their most memorable cases.

Mr. Houze redelivered his closing arguments in State of Oregon v. Davis, in which his client was accused of sexually touching his two young children during the course of a protracted and very contentious divorce. The children gave videotaped statements to a child abuse evaluation center. The successful defense of the case centered on three issues: 1, A demonstration of the motive and ability of the ex-wife to brainwash the children into believing that their father had abused them. 2, A demonstration of the terribly flawed police and child abuse expert investigations. 3, A demonstration of how normal and loving the actual relationship was between Davis and his children.

The Battle of the Lawyers event was held at the Winnigstad Theatre in Portland, Oregon on February 15, 2012.
